Greetings from the Moot Court Society, School of Law, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bangalore!

The 14th National Moot Court Competition, 2024, was conducted by the Moot Court Society, School of Law, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), from 2nd February to 4th February 2024, at Central Campus, Bengaluru. The proposition was based on health law with constitutional aspects. In the proposition, a hypothetical legislation termed the Registered Medical Practitioner (Profession Conduct) Act, 2023, passed by the Government of Scarlatina, aimed to regulate the free prescription of medicines by medical practitioners, which was alleged to be unconstitutional. The proposition is relevant to current times due to the advent of the medical industry and the crucial protection of fundamental rights. The participants indulged in rigorous legal research into medical law and constitutional law to draft memorials on behalf of both the Petitioner and the Respondent parties. Such an exercise enhanced numerous skills, including framing arguments, legal research and vocabulary. The teams further presented detailed oral submissions on the days of the competition.

 
The inauguration of the 14th NMCC 2024 hosted an esteemed retired judge of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, Hon’ble Justice V Gopala Gowda, and a Senior Partner from Cyril Amarchand Mangadas, Mr. Lomesh Kiran Nidumuri. Their speeches included words of wisdom and experience that inspired the participating teams and the students of the School of Law who attended the inauguration as the audience. 


Competing teams and the 14th NMCC 2024 gained experience in the various nuances of mooting, including applying facts, court etiquette, persuasion, legal knowledge, and numerous other skills. The participants gained legal knowledge after being judged by many experienced and knowledgeable professionals in the legal field. 
 

The final round was organised in the Main Auditorium before all batches of the School of Law. It was attended by the students of SLCU who analysed and understoof the mooting process withnessing the two qualifying teams from RV Institute and the National Law School of India University compete with intricate submissions and arguments before the esteemed Judges. The speech of Hon’ble Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka, sitting Judge at the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, whose words of wisdom and elaboration on various ideas and principles of the legal profession inspired the audience. Other esteemed guests, including sitting judge at the Hon’ble High Court of Karnataka, Hon’ble Mr Justice Krishna S Dixit, Senior Counsel at the High Court of Karnataka, Mr N Devdas, and senior partner of Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, Mr Arun Prabhu, inspired the audience with their speeches addressing various aspects of the law.
